A planned walkout of Community Services Child Protection Officers in Orange was cancelled after managers attended a PSA meeting. The walkout was planned in the central western city in reaction to a staff shortage that has resulted in only 20 per cent of children in need of support being seen by a Caseworker. The action is part of a statewide series of walkouts to highlight a Child Protection system in crisis. The PSA will investigate whether there is a culture of fear in the Orange Community Services office that is preventing Caseworkers taking five minutes to protest about their working conditions and staffing levels. #ChildProtectionInCrisis

Troy Wright, PSA Assistant General Secretary was among the attendees at a ceremony marking 2024 World Ranger Day. The ceremony, at Blackheath in the Blue Mountains, remembered the rangers killed throughout the world defending the planet’s wilderness areas. This tragic figure includes the 11 rangers killed in NSW national parks since 1978.
