Obituary for James Biggs
August 22, 1954 — September 19, 2024

In Loving Memory: Obituaries September 29, 2024 - Smokey Barn News (17)James Teaton Biggs Sr., 70, went to be with the Lord on Thursday September 19 at 11:11 pm. He was born to the late James Monroe and Geneva (Clouse) Biggs on August 22, 1954, in Nashville Tennessee. Jim married Karen Jill Ryan Hampton, the woman of his dreams, on June 30, 1995, and they shared 29 wonderful years together.

After high school, Jim enlisted in the US Army in January of 1973 and served until July of 1975. He served in the 101st airborne division of the Army out of Ft. Campbell KY. He was a part of Company D of the 3rd Battalion, the 187th infantry: Rakkasans. He was a ground surveillance radar control crewman and was honorably discharged as an E1. After his service to our country, he worked as a restaurant manager of Shoney’s and Waffle House. He also ran his own painting and drywall company for 15 years. Finally, he retired from being the foreman for Sessions Paving Company where he worked for 15 years.

Jim loved soul winning and serving the Lord. He also loved traveling the country in his RV with his loving wife Karen and caring for his elderly neighbors. Jim was a member of Berean Baptist Church where he faithfully attended with his wife since 2006. As a member of the church, Jim served the Lord in many different areas. One of his life verses is found in Psalm 84:10b. “…I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.” His service to the Lord included: Church bus ministry, head chef for the monthly men’s breakfast, usher/greeter/security, Rock of Ages Prison Ministry, upkeep of the church property, former trustee and lovingly caring for the needs of the church and church members.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Ricky Dale Biggs and 1 Grandchild and 2 Great Grandchildren

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Karen Jill Biggs; children, James (Erica) Briggs, II, Crystal (Bob) Kings, Timothy (Misty) Biggs, Bianca Biggs, Melissa (Joseph) Anderson, Robbie Hampton, Amanda (Jeremy) Berry, Shawn (Kelly) Hampton; Siblings, Patsy (Tom) Bradley and Joy Tomlinson; Grandchildren. 19 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren; Special Niece Pam Vanderford and Jim’s buddy, Martha Newell.

Jim and Karen loved to travel together in their RV. Everywhere they went, they shared the Good News of Jesus Christ with all they met. This year in January, Jim and Karen had planned a trip to Florida but before they could go, Jim was diagnosed with cancer. From the moment of Jim’s diagnosis, he recognized that the Lord was in control and chose to redirect his steps. God’s Word says in Psalm 37:23, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way.” Jim knew that the Lord had called him to the mission field and his mission was to the hospital staff and others he met along the way. Jim was a faithful witness for the Lord until his final breath and has now received the Crown of Righteousness.

II Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all of them also that love his appearing.

In honor of the completion of Jim’s missionary journey, the family would like to invite everyone to attend the revival meeting being held this week at his home church of Berean Baptist Church in White House.
