How to Get the Tritilyte Key in Deep Rock Galactic

Without further ado, let’s get right into this guide!

What Is the Tritilyte Key?

The Tritilyte Key is an essential item for unlocking certain content in Deep Rock Galactic. More specifically, this item is needed to start Machine Events in missions. Machine Events are special side objectives that you can complete while you are down in the mines. They will have you do a variety of tasks from mining special crystals to fending off waves of a unique enemy types.

Machine Events randomly spawn inside missions. The longer the length of the mission, the more likely one will spawn. You can activate the event by interacting with the nearby console during missions and inserting the Tritilyte Key into it. The key does not get consumed upon use, meaning you can keep using the same key, again and again, every time you find a Machine Event.

At least one person on your team needs to have a key to do the Machine Events. This means you can still do the events without unlocking the key yourself, as long as you’re playing with someone who has. It’s still beneficial to have the key in case you’re doing a mission solo or are playing with random players who don’t have it.

How Do You Get It?

So that leads us to the most important question — how do you unlock the Tritilyte Key? All you need to do is promote at least one of your dwarves once and it will be given to you. In order to promote a dwarf, you first need to get them to Level 25. After that, you can start a promotion assignment from the Assignments Terminal.

Once you start the assignment, just complete all of the missions that the assignment tells you to complete. Upon finishing the last mission, your dwarf will be promoted and you’ll unlock the Tritilyte Key! To unlock the key as fast as possible, I recommend sticking with only one class until you reach Level 25.

I also recommend picking missions that have Warning Mutators. These are missions with modifiers that make them more difficult than normal missions, but completing one will give you more XP. You can find a mission with a Warning Mutator by looking for the red, triangle-shaped sign when looking at the mission selection terminal.
