MUL THEM DAILY NEWS Wednesday, June 10, 1992 ABBA FROM PAGE FOUR paid $185 a date, which she split with the owner. The two women who were busted on Nov. 29, 1990, told cops they also began working for ABBA after answering an ad for an escort service in the Voice. One, a 24-year-old aspiring singer who said she also worked as a topless dancer, in a statement to police after her arrest, said that she began working for ABBA in April 1990, after talking with a woman named Rita. Rita, cops say, was really Lorraine Wurzburg, 56, who ran ABBA for a number of years.

"She told me I would have to go to clients' houses, or, sometimes, to motels," she said. "I asked what did I have to do she told it was up to me and the client to In a separate statement, the other woman, 28, said she had been out of work for some time before she called Rita about a job two weeks before she was busted. She said that she then met with the chauffeur at the Seville Diner in Bay- side and filled out a piece of paper, "like a "He said the service charged $165," she said. She said she was told that she would get $20 taken out of her cut if she had to be driven to a client's house, and Rita would get the rest. Cops said they set up a sting after receiving repeated anonymous complaints about the escort service.

At a private home in Freeport, the two women met an undercover cop, who told them that when he had sex he didn't use a condom. "But we said it was a must," the first woman said she replied. After money was taken, the women were busted. Police also arrested the chauffeur at the scene. Wurzburg was arrested at her home, where police seized business records and $18,000.

The money was forfeited when Wurzburg pleaded guilty in February 1991-to a reduced charge. She was fined $250. In a plea bargain, the charges against the two escorts were reduced and they paid only $200 fines. Gov's health pick gets Senate's OK By JOEL BENENSON Daily News Albany Bureau Chief ALBANY Ending a bruising battle with Gov. Cuomo over the staggering salary he proposed for his new health commissioner, the state Senate yesterday unanimously confirmed Mark Chassin to head the Health Department.

Chassin, a former emergency room physician who founded a computer software business in California, agreed to accept the $98,399 salary that had been paid to his predecessor. Senate Republicans refused to confirm Chassin because Cuomo had proposed paying him $160,000 a year, with a portion of the money coming from a stae-run nonprofit research agency. Cuomo's decision to ask for the extraordinary salary was a marked contradiction for a governor who has railed against paying public officials high salaries and returns $30,000 of his pay to the state every year. Cuomo argued that Chassin was the best qualified for the job and was worth the money.
